Gerold Tusch about Susanna Andreini:
The figures are often funny, strange, sad, scary but they stand before us with dignity and honour. With her figure design and presentation, Susanna Andreini offers us the option of a lovable approach in dealing with human characteristics which seem hardly loveable to us at first. She does this, not in a naive way, yet innocently, in the best sense of the word, beyond cuteness.
The figures are made up of a head – a face – with eyes, which look at us – that is the first thing we notice. The second part of their character, their body, is constituted of consciously chosen elements: they are “all dress”, cocktail glass, flowerpot, only hand, and foot or an egg, sewn up taut in pinstripe. Every detail becomes a cryptic bearer of meaning, significantly legible.
In the formation, these things, materials and accessories are fused, brought together within the creation process rather often by intuition to become – a figure. They are tried on and thrown off and complement, in the end with concern for every detail, the multi-layered meaning of the figure. That is how the body is abstracted, separated from its actual outlines, transformed into symbolic information. That is how the figures are devoid of cliché.

ABOUT SUSANNA ANDREINI
Susanna Andreini is a figure artist, actress, singer, voice acrobat, and author - and she impresses with the diversity of her artistic expression as well as the versatility of her skill.
In 2003 Susanna founded the Salzburger Figurentheater “Salzburg puppet theater”. She created and built her own lovable characters; she writes the original stories herself and achieves them through the mix, from the familiar and the new, philosophical and fine humor, reality and fantasy people of all ages.
Her performance in puppet theater is unobtrusively sustainable: a well-thought-out overall concept, implemented empathically in the harmonious combination of the individual creative elements; skillful acting with high sensitivity for their young audience in a club with an imaginatively stimulating stage and expressive figures.
In the creative studios and workshops, she accompanied children and young people in finding their creative spaces and in their creative processes. She caters to young people promoting a good quality environment and know-how to use their imagination and boost their self-confidence. Because concrete and living experiences at the place of figure events enable lasting experiences that contribute to the creative self-expression and development of artists.
Susanna herself continues to develop herself and her work, and for some years now she has been offering special mentoring for artists and even a Private Master for artists.

from an interview WITH Susanna
Q: What are you searching for in your art?
A: What I'm searching for in my work and what I'm hopefully expressing in my figures, is human nature. I love the kind of craziness in the deepness of the human soul. And being a clown myself, I always look for humor and lightness in my creations. What I'm also in love with is playing - playing with material, playing with the moving and the unmoved. So I work in sculptures and figures that can move to puppets on stage and the other way round. I'm interested in finding crossovers between diverse kinds of arts.
I often start working with a question about the material: Who are you? What do you want me to tell you? Sometimes the sculpture and I do not agree on this point. All of them are shy and need to be loved and protected by myself revealing their secrets.
